David "Dave" Harold (born December 9, 1966 in Stoke-on-Trent , England ) is an English snooker player .

Career and Success

As an amateur he played under his real name David Harold. His professional career began in 1991 and has been called Dave Harold ever since. Just two years later he was able to record his first and so far only tournament victory on the Snooker Main Tour when he won the Asian Open in 1993 in the final against Darren Morgan with 9: 3. At that time he was 93rd in the world rankings and thus became the lowest placed tournament winner in the world rankings to date. His trademark is his very unusual shot style, in which he dispenses with the usual swing and without it he goes into the shot immediately after aiming at the target ball.

In 1996 Harold reached the quarterfinals of the 1996 World Snooker Championship . In the following years he established himself at the top of the world, reaching 11th place in the world rankings in the 1996/1997 season .

After an arm injury on New Year's Eve 2003, he fell back to 60th place, but was able to work his way up steadily in the following years and in October 2006 again reached the top 32 in the world in the Provisional Ranking, the provisional ranking calculated after each tournament. At the Irish Masters 2005 he had to admit defeat in the quarterfinals Robert Milkins 3: 6.

In 2008 he reached the final of the Northern Ireland Trophy , but lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan 3-9 .

Harold lives in Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire . He played his highest break to date with 143 points at the 2007 Grand Prix .
