David Bretherton

David Bretherton (born February 29, 1924 in Los Angeles ; † May 11, 2000 there ) was an American film editor . For Cabaret he was awarded the Oscar for Best Editing in 1973 .

Life

David Bretherton was born in Los Angeles to editor and director Howard Bretherton and actress Dorothea McEvoy. During World War II he served in the United States Air Force . He then started working in the editing department at 20th Century Fox . In the films Hilda Crane , Gefangene des Stroms and The Invisible Front (1956), he was responsible for the editing independently for the first time . His biggest success was the movie theater it for 1973 with the Oscar for the Best Editing award.

Bretherton received the ACE Career Achievement Award in 1995 for life's work .

On May 11, 2000, Bretherton died at the John Douglas French Center in Los Angeles after a long illness of pneumonia . He was married to film editor Elyane Bretherton until his death. He had two daughters with her.
