David Poile (born February 14, 1949 in Toronto , Ontario ) is the General Manager of the Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League .

Career as a player

David Poile, son of Hall of Famers Bud Poile , played for Northeastern University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from 1967 to 1970 . He then played one season each for the Braintree Hawks and Rochester Americans .

General manager career

Before Poile became GM of the Nashville Predators, he worked for the Calgary Flames and the Washington Capitals , where he was GM for 15 years.

Poile was also General Manager of the US National Team in 1998 and 1999. In the 2000/01 season he received the Lester Patrick Trophy , which his father Bud Poile received.

Poile is best known for its surprising player transactions. For example, from 2004 to 2007 he brought players like Steve Sullivan , Paul Kariya , Peter Forsberg , Jason Arnott and Witali Wischnewski to Nashville.
