David Sprüngli (born October 20, 1776 in Andelfingen , Canton of Zurich , † February 14, 1862 in Zurich ) was a Swiss confectioner and chocolatier .

When Sprüngli's teacher, councilor Ludwig Vogel, died in 1831, Sprüngli became a journeyman to his widow. In 1838 he bought the house and the shop on Marktgasse in Zurich and continued to run it under his name as Confiserie Sprüngli .

At the age of 62 he was naturalized in Zurich in 1838 and was accepted into the guild of boatmen in Zurich that same year . Together with his son Rudolf Sprüngli , he only produced chocolate from 1845 and after a short time demand had increased so much that it was necessary to move to Horgen , combined with an expansion. His firstborn son David Sprüngli-Schmidlin (1814–1881) lived and worked as an architect in Basel.
