David Zhu

Dai Wei "David" Zhu (born August 17, 1990 ) is a former Chinese automobile racing driver .

Career

Zhu started his motorsport career in formula racing in 2007. He started for Meritus in the Asian Formula BMW . While his teammate Jazeman Jaafar won the championship title, Zhu was tenth with two podium finishes. In 2008 Zhu switched to Formula Asia 2.0 for March3 Racing . He finished three races on the podium and finished sixth overall, while Felix Rosenqvist , his team-mate, again won the championship title. He also took part in two races each in the Asian Formula Renault Challenge in 2007 and 2008 .

In 2009 Zhu switched to the Japanese Formula Challenge . After finishing 13th overall in his debut season, he improved to ninth championship place in 2010. He was the best non-Japanese pilot in both years. In 2011, Zhu only took part in the first two race weekends of the Formula Pilota China Series . Starting for Eurasia Motorsport , he achieved second place and at the end of the season he was eighth in the championship.

In 2012 Zhu moved to Europe in the FIA Formula 2 Championship . Zhu became the first Chinese driver in this racing series. With a fifth place as the best result, he finished the season in eleventh place.
