DeChaunac

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DeChaunac is a red wine variety . It is a new breed by the French breeder Albert Seibel (1844–1936). It was dedicated to the French-Canadian wine pioneer Adhemar de Chaunac . The very high-yielding hybrid vine, which is particularly suitable for cooler regions, is widespread on the US east coast (New York State, Finger Lake) and in Canada (Ontario Province and Nova Scotia Province). In Switzerland there are also small vineyards that are planted with DeChaunac (0.26 hectares, status 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG). In Canada, however, the grape variety does not fall under the approved varieties for quality viticulture. There, about 160 frost-free days are enough for the variety to supply fully ripe grapes.

DeChaunac is used to produce fruity and tannin-rich rosé and red wines . It is also used as a blending partner with Cabernet Sauvignon . It has good resistance to downy mildew and powdery mildew .
