Dean Hamer

Dean Hamer (* 29. May 1951 in Montclair ) is a geneticist , since 2005 director of the Gene Structure and -regulierungsabteilung in national cancer -Institut the United States (at Gene Structure and Regulation Unit the US National Cancer Institute ) is. He earned a bachelor's degree from Trinity College, Connecticut, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from Harvard Medical School .

He is involved in two major scientific controversies. Together with Simon Levay he developed the theory of the existence of a " gay gene " that predetermines homosexuality in men. He later postulated the existence of a " God gene ", the VMAT2 , which is said to be responsible for spiritual and religious experiences.

In addition to his scientific work in the narrower sense, he published a number of popular scientific books and is the owner of several patents.
