Dean Tavoularis

Dean Tavoularis (born May 18, 1932 in Lowell, Massachusetts ) is an American production designer .

Dean Tavoularis was born in Massachusetts to Greek immigrants . However, he grew up in Los Angeles. After studying architecture and painting , he began to work as a draftsman at Disney Studios . The director Arthur Penn hired him in 1967 for his film Bonnie Clyde as a production designer. His breakthrough as one of the most outstanding production designers in the film business came with the production designs for Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather . Since then, he and Coppola have worked together for decades. He received his only Oscar for Coppola's The Godfather - Part II . In total, he received five Oscar nominations for his production designs.

Dean Tavoularis is married to the French actress Aurore Clément . They met while filming Apocalypse Now . Aurore plays the role of Roxanne Sarrault. However, it can only be seen in the redux version. Their scenes have been deleted from the first theatrical version.
