As a dedication picture (from Latin dedicatio "appropriation, consecration, dedication") or dedication picture is a picture which is usually placed at the beginning of a manuscript in book illumination and which addresses the author, more rarely the scribe or illuminator, of the work when the book is presented shows the client. Dedication pictures are among the first realistic portraits . The dedication picture is a special case of the donor picture , which shows the client of a work of art without the artist. Both types of images were often accompanied by saints , most of whom were the namesake of the founder.
