The Democratic-Modernist Pole ( Arabic القطب الديمقراطي الحداثي, DMG al-Quṭb ad-dīmuqrāṭī al-ḥadāṯī , French Pôle démocratique moderniste , abbreviation PDM , Arabic for short القطب, al-Qutb 'the Pol') was a secular and left-wing political alliance in Tunisia . It was founded in May 2011, after the Tunisian Revolution and before the election to the Constituent Assembly .

The alliance consisted of five citizens' groups and four political parties, the largest of which is the Ettajdid movement . Attempts by the Democratic-Modernist Pole to form a coalition with other parties before the elections failed. Riadh Ben Fadl and Mustapha Ben Ahmed were the founders of the group, led by Ahmed Brahim , General Secretary of Ettajdid. On September 7, the PDM announced its lists of candidates for seats in the Constituent Assembly in all 33 constituencies, both domestically and abroad. The top candidates were 16 women and 17 men. Pre-election polls predicted up to 20% of the vote for the bloc.

In fact, contrary to all expectations, the PDM received only 2.8% of the votes cast and 5 of the 217 seats in the Constituent Assembly. After the election, the PDM members formed a parliamentary group (Alliance) with other secular parties ( PDP , Afek Tounes ) and non-party members who were in opposition to the three-party government (“Troika”) . They rejected the provisions of the provisional constitutional law (“mini-constitution”) of December 10 and the subsequent election of Moncef Marzouki as interim president with the votes of Ennahda , Ettakatol and his Congress Party (CPR).

In April 2012 the small Republican Party merged with the PDP and Afek Tounes to form the new, larger Republican Party and thus left the PDM. Shortly afterwards, the Ettajdid movement, the Tunisian Labor Party and non-party members of the PDM merged to form the Social Democratic Way . This effectively dissolved the alliance.
