Democratic Progressive Party

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Democratic Progressive Party was an Austrian party founded in 1965 by Franz Olah after he was expelled from the SPÖ . The party was more of a populist position; Authors in the GDR assessed, for example, that the party “ leaned closely on reactionary and monarchist circles”. The party won over 3% of the vote in the 1966 National Council election, but no mandate. It enabled the ÖVP to achieve an absolute majority in mandates and to rule under Josef Klaus . In 1969 the DFP, which lived exclusively on Olah's reputation, won three seats in the Vienna municipal council elections. The party's importance quickly declined when Olah withdrew from politics, and individual functionaries later joined the FPÖ .
