Dennis Gansel
Dennis Gansel (born October 4, 1973 in Hanover ) is a German film director and screenwriter who also appeared as an actor in his films .
Live and act
In his youth, Dennis Gansel attended the Tellkampf School in Hanover from 1987 to 1993 , from which he graduated from high school. Between 1993 and 1995 he did his community service. From 1994 to 2000 he studied with his long-time producer colleague and friend Christian Becker at the University of Television and Film Munich .
His first film was the short film The Wrong Trip from 1995. Gansel directed his first feature film in 1999 with Das Phantom , an RAF political thriller starring Jürgen Vogel as an investigator. The film was broadcast on television in May 2000 and not only received tremendous press coverage, but was also awarded three Adolf Grimme Awards. Dennis Gansel made his cinema debut in 2001 with Mädchen, Mädchen .
In 2008 his film Die Welle , which he also made again with his producer Becker, was shown in German cinemas. The film was shown at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival in the World Cinema - Dramatic section, but had to admit defeat to the Swedish entry Ping-pongkingen by Jens Jonsson when the jury was awarded . For this he won the German Film Award in bronze in the category of best German feature film .
In 2010 he directed the vampire film We Are the Night and thus fulfilled a long-standing dream, as he had the basic idea for the film back in 1996/97 at the film school. In November 2014, Gansel began filming his first international production, Mechanic: Resurrection , a sequel to The Mechanic (2011) starring Jason Statham in Thailand .
Dennis Gansel was one of the founding members of the German Film Academy in 2003 .
