The Minas Department is located in the northwest of the Neuquén Province in southern Argentina and is one of 16 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered by Chile to the north and west , the Chos Malal department to the east and the Ñorquín department to the south .

The capital of the Minas Department is Andacollo .

According to estimates by INDEC , the population increased from 7,072 inhabitants (2001) to 7,912 inhabitants in 2005.

The Minas Department is divided into a second category municipality ( Andacollo ), three third category municipalities ( Huinganco , Las Ovejas , Los Miches ), the Comisiones de Fomento Guañacos , Manzano Amargo , Varvarco / Invernada Vieja and Villa del Nahueve . Other settlements in the area of the department are Aguas Calientes , Bella Vista , Los Carrizos , Pichi Neuquén and Las Lagunas .
