Depok is a city in the Indonesian province of Jawa Barat on the island of Java . The city has an area of ​​200.29 km² and in 2018 had around 2,300,000 inhabitants. Depok is part of the Jabodetabek metropolitan area , which has formed around the Indonesian capital Jakarta .

The landscape of Depok is characterized from south to north as a lowland area with gently undulating hills between 50 and 140 meters above sea ​​level . Depok is drained by the major rivers Ciliwung and Cisadane and 13 other small watercourses. There are 25 lakes (169.68 ha) with poor water quality. Flood problems occur again and again , especially in areas through which the Angke, Ciliwung, Pesanggrahan and Cikeas flow.

Within 5 years from 2000 to 2005 the population of Depok rose by almost 448,000. Depok is one of the two locations of Universitas Indonesia .
