The Fall Hau is a television game that was produced by Televersal Hamburg on behalf of ZDF . The broadcast date was January 7, 1966.

content

The television film depicts the authentic case of the lawyer Dr. Carl Hau (1881–1926), who in 1907 was sentenced to death in a circumstantial trial for the murder of his mother-in-law, and was later pardoned to life imprisonment. He was released on parole after 17 years in prison. After he wrote two books in which he described the process and the time of detention from his point of view, the sentence was revoked. Hau then fled to Italy and finally committed suicide there.

Others

The production, shot in black and white, received little friendly reviews from the TV magazine Gong at the time. It was criticized, among other things, that screenwriter Erich Ebermayer only provided a "superficial transfer of the facts" and did not even go into the books that Hau had written about his fate after his release from prison. The gong sees the "perplexed viewer (...) asking in vain for a useful application" and ultimately describes the film as "unsuccessful re-chewing of facts" .
