action

The action takes place at the time of La Violencia in a Colombian tropical village, in which daily life has come to a standstill due to the ruling military regime. Over time, the rooster becomes a symbol of hope and resistance for the village.

background

Unlike most of García Márquez's other works, the narrative is not attributable to magical realism .

In his autobiography Vivir para contarla , the author writes that the story was inspired by the fate of his grandfather, who was also a colonel, and who never received the promised pension. It is also believed that the author's unemployment in 1956 also influenced the narrative.

filming

It was filmed in 1999 under the title No Post for the Colonel under the direction of Arturo Ripstein . Fernando Luján plays the role of colonel .
