action

In 1692, five families with magical powers lived in the so-called Ipswich Colony in Massachusetts . The forces are each inherited by the eldest son, who may use the powers at age 13 and for the first time at age 18 rises and has from then on the full forces. Pretty much anything is possible with the powers: floating, repairing broken windows, hurling people across the room, etc. The catch is: The application of powers is addictive and the more you use them, the faster you age. The five families therefore make a pact: The forces should not be misused - and nobody should be reported about it.

The elite school Spencer Academy in Ipswich in 2006: One of the families did not survive the Ipswich witch burnings at the time. The four sons of the remaining families, Caleb Danvers, Reid Garwin, Tyler Simms and Pogue Parry attend that school. At a party, the four friends, who are like brothers, meet their new classmate Chase Collins and their new classmate Sarah Wenham, with whom Caleb soon falls in love. Reid often uses his powers secretly, with which he turns Caleb against himself, as they could all be blown out. After a classmate is found dead and Caleb feels that someone is using the powers, he suspects Reid to be responsible, but Reid protests his innocence, which leads to a full-force brawl between them. Caleb is certain that Reid must be the killer since Pogue wasn't and Tyler doesn't have the guts to lie to Caleb. Furthermore, Caleb has other problems. His 18th birthday is approaching and he will soon be promoted. His powers will then be a thousand times stronger and very seductive. His alcoholic mother fears that he could become addicted, just like his father once did. Caleb tries to make it clear to his mother that he is not like his father, but that doesn't calm her at all, since his father had the same attitude at the time. In addition, despite his 44 years of age, his father has aged massively from the excessive use of his powers, which is why Caleb often has to get him his medication. During this time he gets very close to Sarah, who is interested in him, and they both come together. After various other disturbing incidents, Caleb discovers during a swimming competition against Chase that he also has such powers and uses them. Caleb tells Pogue of his discovery and they both break into the administration building to find out more about Chase. They find out that Chase's real name is Chase Goodwin Pope and comes from an adoptive family who died on his eighteenth birthday, the day he was promoted. Caleb then remembers Goodie Pope, a person who was mentioned in the "Book of Doom". Pogue calls Reid and Tyler and they come over. With the help of the said book they find out the following: Goodie Pope was one of the people who brought allegations against John Putnam, the head of the believed to be extinct fifth family, and his family during the Salem witch trials. Her son Hagen Pope was born more than ten months after her husband's death. John Putnam had appeared to her as a demon in a dream and therefore Hagen must have been Pope Putnam's illegitimate child. Chase is thus the descendant of an illegitimate child of the fifth family and one of them.

Chase puts the curse on Kate, Pogue's friend, "The Creation", whereupon she suffers anaphylactic shock due to numerous spider bites and is hospitalized. When Pogue tries to help her, Chase himself injures him badly to use as bait for Caleb. He reveals to Caleb what he wants: Since he is addicted to the use of powers and therefore threatens to age, he wants Caleb to give him his powers on the day he ascends - Caleb would die in the process. In addition, Chase's biological father illegally transferred his powers to him, which makes him extremely strong. Caleb lets Sarah in and explains everything about the powers. He also introduces her to his father. On his birthday, at 11:12 p.m., Chase is supposed to appear at a barn in the Ipswich Colony, where Chase is waiting for him. Since a fight seems hopeless because of Chase's enormous strength, Reid and Tyler want to help Caleb and his mother inform the other families, but Caleb refuses because Chase would kill everyone. Instead, Reid and Tyler accompany Sarah to the Fall Festival and watch out to make sure Chase, who also killed the student, doesn't kidnap them. But that is exactly what he does. He uses Sarah as leverage against Caleb. A tough fight breaks out between the two, in which Chase is far superior to Caleb and mocks him. Then Caleb rises and can slowly counter his opponent, but is still inferior to him. Caleb's mother now persuades his father to give his son his strength, which he then does. Now a match for Caleb Chase, turns the tables and defeats him, with the barn blown up. Then he takes Sarah out of the flames. However, when the fire department does not find a body the next day, it is a sign that Chase may have survived. Caleb repairs his broken car window with his strength and drives away with Sarah. Pogue and Kate are apparently recovering too.

Reviews

“This mixture of fantasy nonsense and teenage clique film doesn't even have great pictures, let alone noteworthy actors. Everything looks stolen and crude mixed, the main thing is that the teenagers look sexy. Director Renny Harlin has made much better films - but that was a long time ago. "

"Unimportant pop fairy tale in the MTV look that does not show even the slightest interest in its story or its characters."

"[...] A stupid story, implemented by pillpalle. The only interesting question is why Renny Harlin staged his hardened, rarely fully clothed actors so grotesquely lascivious. In the end, does he not prepare for TV series at all, but for directing commercials for shower gel? "
