Desireless (born December 25, 1952 in Paris ; actually Claudie Fritsch-Mentrop ) is a French singer . The pseudonym “Desireless” is English for “without desire”, but is often pronounced in French as [ deziʁˈlɛs ].

biography

She spent her childhood with her sister with her grandparents in Le Tréport in Normandy . She returned to her parents' home at the age of twelve, which she left again at the age of 18. She was interested in fashion and in 1975, with her friend Claude Sabbah, designed a collection called Poivre et sel .

After traveling through India in 1980, she began singing in jazz , new wave and rhythm and blues groups. In 1984, according to other sources as early as 1983, she met the composer Jean Michel Rivat . In 1985 she met her partner François.

While the success of their first two singles Chercher l'amour fou (Air 89) and Qui peut savoir (Air) was limited, Voyage, voyage 1986 was not only a huge success in France. In 1986, 1987 and 1988 (in England as a remix ) the title was finally present in all of Europe and a few other countries, the single often only rose slowly in the charts, but stayed in the charts for an extraordinarily long time and was mostly the number one. In Germany in 1987 no single record was sold as often as this one. It also made it to the top of the charts in most other European countries. In Switzerland, Voyage, voyage was the superior winner of the annual charts in 1987, although it was never among the top three in the weekly charts.

In 1990 their daughter Lilli was born. In 1995 she moved with her partner and daughter from Paris to the Drôme department . With the guitarist Michel Gentils she organized acoustic concerts in different places in France. In 2002 she also worked with Dominique Dubois, who had co-composed Voyage, voyage at the time . At the end of 2003, she separated from her partner François.
