The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) ( Tamil : தேசிய முற்போக்கு திராவிட கழகம் [ ˈd̪eːsijə ˈmurpoːkːɯ ˈd̪rɑːʋiɖə ˈkaɻəɦʌm ] "national progressive Dravidian League") is a regional party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu . It was founded in 2005 by popular actor Vijayakanth . Like the DMK and AIADMK , which dominate the politics of Tamil Nadu, is one of the DMDK to the so-called "Dravidian parties," a Tamil - nationalist represented policy. The success of the DMDK is primarily based on the charisma of its party leader Vijayakanth.

In the parliamentary elections in Tamil Nadu in 2006, in which the DMDK ran for the first time, it did not join any of the existing party alliances in which the parties split up the constituencies because of the prevailing majority voting rights, but instead ran independently in all 234 constituencies. The DMDK won 8.4% of the vote, but gained a majority in only one constituency. The party founder Vijayakanth moved into parliament as the only DMDK candidate. In the all- Indian parliamentary elections in 2009 , the DMDK ran independently in all 39 constituencies of Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry . She improved her share of the vote in Tamil Nadu to 10.1%, but could not get a seat. In the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Tamil Nadu in 2011, the DMDK joined the party alliance led by the opposition AIADMK. This time the party won 29 of the 41 constituencies in which it ran. This made it the second strongest party in parliament after the victorious AIADMK, but before the previously ruling DMK.

The party logo of the DMDK is a drum, the party colors are red-yellow-black.
