Deoxyribonucleotides
Deoxyribonucleotides are the building blocks of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Together with the ribonucleotides , they belong to the nucleotides . Deoxyribonucleotides consist of the sugar deoxyribose , which is linked to the nucleobases adenine (A) and guanine (G) ( purine base ) or cytosine (C) and thymine (T) ( pyrimidine base ), as well as a phosphate residue , which leads to the deoxyribonucleotides dAMP, dGMP, dCMP and dTMP (deoxyribonucleoside monophosphate, dNMP).
At the 1'-carbon atom of the deoxyribose is the nucleobase is at the 2'-carbon atom, in contrast to ribose is a hydrogen atom (-H) of ribonucleotides instead of a hydroxy group (-OH), and at the 5-carbon atom of the phosphate residue. In the case of polymerization by enzymatic condensation to form DNA, a hydroxyl group of the phosphate radical binds to the 3'-hydroxyl group of the deoxyribose of the subsequent deoxyribose. Hence the convention of reading the DNA from the 5 'end to the 3' end .
