Detox (Greenpeace)

Detox is one in July 2011 by Greenpeace launched campaign that compared the use of hazardous chemicals in the textile industry depends.

Textile chemicals , such as those used to dye clothing, pose a threat to the environment. The heavy metals they contain, some of which are toxic, can pollute drinking water . Another problem in textile production are the perfluorinated and polyfluorinated alkyl compounds , such as those used in functional clothing in particular .

Detox campaign

The environmental organization Greenpeace runs the Detox campaign in various countries. In German-speaking countries, the slogan “Dirty laundry!” Is predominantly used. As part of the campaign, Greenpeace is calling for no more dangerous chemicals to be used in textile production.

According to Greenpeace, a total of 80 companies, which account for around 15 percent of global textile production, have now (mid-2018) committed not to use any substances from the eleven most dangerous chemical groups in the production of their goods by 2020. The 80 companies include H&M , Primark , Zara , Adidas , Nike , Puma , Aldi , Lidl and Tchibo . In Germany, 30 percent of the textile industry is 'on a detox course'.
