German Debating Society

The Deutsche Debattiergesellschaft - Alumni und Förderer des Debattierens eV (DDG) is an association for friends of debating , of debating organized as a competition, based in Berlin . The members, who have outgrown the student debating clubs, are united by an interest in remaining connected to debating and in establishing and promoting a German-speaking debate culture. The prerequisite for joining is the minimum age of 23 years or a university degree.

Young Talent Award

Of particular importance for active debaters is the German University Debating Prize awarded annually since 2004 at the German-speaking Debating Championship (until 2011, the German Debating Championship ) . The award is given to a particularly talented speaker under the age of 23. In the further course of their debating career, several prizewinners were able to achieve the title of German Master or win tournaments in the renowned ZEIT DEBATTEN series .

The current and all previous winners are eligible to participate in the Masters' Cup . The Masters' Cup is a debating tournament that the DDG organizes for its members every year in Eisenach .

  • 2011: Sina Strupp ( Debating Club Johannes Gutenberg )
  • 2012: Tobias Kube (Brothers Grimm Debating Club Marburg)
  • 2013: Felicia Höer (Debating Club Magdeburg)
  • 2014: Jan Ehlert (culture of controversy Tübingen)
  • 2015: Sabrina Effenberger (Rederei Heidelberg)
  • 2016: Florian Schneider (BiTS Debating Society)
  • 2017: Angélique Herrler (Debating Club Heidelberg)
