The German Society for Phlebology is a scientific association in the field of phlebology (study of the diseases of the veins ).

On March 24, 1957, the German Working Group for Phlebology was founded in the Hotel Frankfurter Hof in Frankfurt am Main . Its origins go back to the "Association of Specialists for Leg Diseases" (1909–1934). It is therefore one of the oldest phlebological societies. It has grown from initially just under 100 members to around 1,600 members (as of 2016), making it one of the largest scientific phlebological societies in the world. The DGP is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF).

The association was founded in order to unite and educate all doctors interested in the problems of vascular diseases, especially venous diseases, and to further develop this specialist area in science and practice. The purpose of the statutes is realized in particular through scientific events at national and international level, implementation of further training measures, further development of the medical field in science and practice, as well as the publication of a journal serving science and further education ( Phlebology , Georg Thieme Verlag). Furthermore, the company supports research tasks and projects in basic research in the field of phlebology.

According to the articles of association, ordinary members, extraordinary members, supporting members, corporate members, corresponding members and honorary members can belong to the society. Doctors who deal scientifically or practically with phlebology can become full members. Non-medical scientists who have actively dealt with phlebology and its border areas can become extraordinary members. Supporting members can be natural or legal persons who support the society in achieving its goals. Corporate members can become scientific societies or associations whose objectives include tasks from the vascular area. Doctors and scientists who are active in the field of phlebology and its border areas can be elected as corresponding members. People who have made special contributions to phlebology and / or society can be elected as honorary members.

The registered seat of the association is Freiburg im Breisgau. The office is located in Bonn .
