The German Society for Phoniatry and Pedaudiology e. V. (abbreviated DGPP) is the scientific society of doctors for phoniatrics and pediatric audiology (temporary specialist title "Doctors for voice, speech and children's hearing disorders" from 2004 to 2018) in Germany.

This was founded in 1983 and emerged from the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Deutschensprachigen Phoniater" founded in 1966.

Its statutory purpose is:

  • Promotion of science, research and teaching in the field of phoniatry and pediatric audiology
  • Promotion of advanced and advanced training in the field

The purposes of the association are realized in particular through:

  • Support of research projects and teaching in phoniatry and pediatric audiology,
  • Organization of scientific congresses and advanced training for doctors,
  • Support in the development of procedures and devices for diagnosis and therapy as well as of remedies and aids in phoniatry and pediatric audiology,
  • Elaboration of proposals for adapting the further training regulations in phoniatrics and pediatric audiology (speech, voice and children's hearing disorders) to the current state of development,
  • Public relations work in terms of phoniatry and pedaudiology.
  • the further development of medical care for patients with impaired voice, speech, speech and swallowing as well as hearing-impaired children to improve public health.

Doctors who have completed further training in their specialty or natural persons with a special interest in the specialty can become full members. Doctors in continuing education can be accepted as junior members with limited membership rights. The board of directors decides on applications for membership; the applicant must nominate two full members as guarantors.

In August 2020, 241 full members were registered in the DGPP, plus 26 junior members and 44 retired, honorary and foreign members.

Annerose Keilmann from Bad Rappenau has been president of the specialist association since September 2018. Past President is Götz Schade (Bonn), Incoming President Peter Kummer (Regensburg).

Gerhard Kittel , founding president of the DGPP, was appointed first honorary president of the society on the occasion of the 25th annual meeting in Düsseldorf in 2008.

Membership cooperations

The DGPP is a member of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies , the Union of European Phoniatrists ( UEP) and the International Association of Logopedics and Phoniatrics (IALP).

DGPP delegates include a. to the Global Burden of Disease Hearing Loss Expert Group of the WHO , the Bureau International d'Audiophonologie (BIAP) , the International Federation of Otorhinolaryngeal Societies (IFOS) , the International Association of Physicians in Audiology (IAPA) , the Center Permanent de Liasion des Orthophonistes / Logopèdes de l'Union Européenne (CPLOL) , the European Academy of Phoniatrics (EAP) , the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) , the G-BA , the German Society for Voice and Speech Medicine (DGSS) , the Society for interdisciplinary language acquisition research and language disorders in children in German-speaking countries e. V. (GISKID) .

The professional society awards a number of prizes for research and teaching from the various areas of the subject at its annual meetings:
