German handball champions (women)
The following lists give an overview of the German women's handball champions .
Until 1933 there was no umbrella organization for handball in Germany. Therefore, several sports associations played their field handball champions independently of one another - with different titles (such as German champions, Reich winners or federal champions). During the Nazi regime, a uniform German championship was only established from 1934 by the Reichsbund für physical exercises (July 1934 German, from the end of 1938 National Socialist Reichsbund für physical exercises). After the Second World War , the two German states held separate championships. (West) German large field champions not recognized by the DHB existed as early as 1947, GDR large field champions since 1949. The GDR was looking for its first indoor handball champion in 1951, and the Federal Republic of Germany followed suit in 1958.
overview
All large field championships held before 1934 were not taken into account in the following overview, as several championships were held by various associations during these years. The three large field championships from 1947 to 1949 were also not taken into account, as they are not recognized by the DHB .

Indoor handball
Separate championships BRD / GDR (1951–1991)
The German indoor handball championship for women has been played in the FRG since 1958. Until 1964, the championship took place in a final round of the five regional champions plus the runner-up of the organizing association over a weekend in a hall. From 1965 onwards only the regional champions were eligible to participate, who determined the German champions in a play-off round (the home right was drawn) with a final final at a (not always) neutral location. The women's handball national league has existed since 1975 , initially with a north and a south season, and from the 1985/86 season onwards as a single track.
In the GDR, the indoor handball championship was played from 1951 in a GDR-wide league that was organized by the DTSB. The record champions of the GDR in indoor handball are SC Leipzig with 15 titles.
All-German Championship (since 1992)
A corresponding league association was formed in 1996, which carries out the championship independently from the DHB. Between 2004 and 2013, the German women's champion was determined through play-off games after the end of the league round.
Field handball
DT and DSB (1921–1933)
Until 1933 there was no umbrella organization for handball in Germany. Therefore, several sports associations played their champions independently of each other - with different titles (such as German champion, Reich winner or federal champion): In the period from 1922 to 1933, the German Sports Authority for Athletics (DSB), the predecessor of the German Athletics Association, and the German Gymnastics Association (DT) organized separate competitions. From 1931 to 1933 the winners of these two associations competed against each other in a final.
