The German Luge Championships 2019 took place on December 22, 2019 on the luge track in Oberhof , Thuringia .
The titles went to Julia Taubitz in the women's singles, Johannes Ludwig in the men's singles and Toni Eggert / Sascha Benecken in the doubles. For the fourth time, a team relay was held at the German championships, which was won by the Thuringia team led by Julia Taubitz, Sebastian Bley and Toni Eggert / Sascha Benecken.
Defending champion
At the German Championships in luge in 2018 in the Veltins-ice arena in Winterberg won Geisenberger in single-seater of women, Felix Loch in single-seater men and Robin Geueke / David Gamm in the doubles. Natalie Geisenberger, Felix Loch and Tobias Wendl / Tobias Arlt secured victory in the team relay last year. Only Natalie Geisenberger did not defend her title in 2019. She had interrupted her career at the beginning of the 2019/20 season due to pregnancy.

Julia Taubitz won her first title at the German Championships with two fastest times and a lead of around two tenths of a second. Anna Berreiter took second place , Jessica Tiebel took third place ahead of Cheyenne Rosenthal . As expected, the World Cup starters took the places ahead of junior Isabell Richter . In the junior category, Rosenthal took first place ahead of Richter.

Local hero Johannes Ludwig won in the men's single-seater , who was able to secure his first title at the German championships with two fastest times. Second place went to Sebastian Bley , whose home track is also Oberhof, ahead of defending champion Felix Loch . Max Langenhan landed in fourth place. Junior World Cup starter Florian Müller reached fifth place ahead of elite World Cup starter Moritz Bollmann . Thomas Jaensch and Mathias Ertel drove to the other places. Müller thus also secured victory in the junior ranking of the German championship ahead of Bollmann and Jaensch, Ertel came fourth here.

The overall World Cup winners of the 2018/19 season and World Cup leaders of the 2019/20 season (after three completed World Cups), Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken , achieved their fourth German championship title with a lead of more than one and a half tenths of a second ahead of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt . The defending champions Robin Geueke and David Gamm came bronze with a clear gap of more than six tenths of a second. The junior world cup starters Max Richard Ewald / Jakob Jannusch finished fourth, the junior world champions of the 2018/19 season, Hannes Orlamünder / Paul Constantin Gubitz , only achieved fifth place after a serious mistake in the second run on their home track. The junior classification was won by Ewald / Jannusch, who were the only ones to start in this classification.

The team relay competition was won by the Thuringia 1 team led by Julia Taubitz , Sebastian Bley and Toni Eggert / Sascha Benecken, clearly ahead of Jessica Tiebel , Moritz Bollmann and Hannes Orlamünder / Paul Gubitz . As a result of three disqualifications - Cheyenne Rosenthal , Isabell Richter and Felix Loch hadn't hit the touchpad at the finish, which triggers the timekeeping and the starting gate for the following starters - there were only two places in this ranking.
