German Book Prize

The German Book Prize was an undoped literary prize that was awarded by the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels from 2002 to 2004 as part of the Leipzig Book Fair .

In September 2004 the Börsenverein decided to award a new literature prize at the Frankfurt Book Fair from autumn 2005. The German Book Prize will in future honor the best German-language novel of the year. At the Leipzig Book Fair, the Leipzig Book Fair Prize has been awarded in three categories for particularly noteworthy new publications since spring 2005 .

Price figure

The winners received the books-butt trophy designed by Günter Grass . The bronze sculpture is 35 cm high and weighs around six kilograms. In Grass' work, the flounder stands for life experience and wisdom.
