Didier Amevi Ahadsi (born May 23, 1970 in Vogan ) is a contemporary artisan from Togo .

biography

Ahadsi belongs to the Ewe people and grew up with three half-brothers and four half-sisters in Vogan, a town north of the Togolese capital Lomé . His environment was shaped by agriculture, the voodoo cult and Christianity . During his primary school years, Ahadsi began to do handicrafts from tin cans . As a teenager he made toys out of discarded tin cans and sold them at the weekly market in Vogan. His uncle recognized Ahadsi's talent and made him work in his car repair shop in Lomé. Ahadsi learned the profession of body builder with a diploma. After working in various workshops, he founded his own workshop. However, since it did not go well, Ahadsi resorted to his self-taught art of tin figures. Instead of tin cans, however, he now uses high-quality body panels.

Today, the objects made by Ahadsi, including his figures, are in international demand. Ahadsi exhibits in European galleries and also has a following in Japan. The Japanese designer Issey Miyake is said to have a larger collection of Ahadsi's works.
