The Woman Without Prejudice , Also A Woman Without Prejudice ( Russian Женщина без предрассудков , Shenschtschina bes predrassudkow ), is a short story by the Russian writer Anton Chekhov , which appeared on February 10, 1883 in Sritel , a Moscow magazine for humor.

The 30-year-old athletic officer Maxim Kuzmich Salyutov made a declaration of love to the beautiful Miss Jelena Gavrilovna. Love is returned. The bride's respected, wealthy parents consent to the marriage.

Before the marriage is consummated on the wedding night, Maxim has to make a confession to his Jelena: He is not worth her love, because at twenty he was a circus clown . The new wife laughingly demands evidence.

On the morning after the wedding night, an unmistakable rumble calls Maxim's in-laws to the bridal bed. The parents are astonished to witness the enjoyable gymnastics exercises of their son-in-law. Jelena applauds enthusiastically.
