The Mimmi's are a German punk rock band from Bremen . They are considered a classic representative of fun punk .

history

1982–1985: The early years

The Mimmi's were founded in 1982 after the breakup of the Düsseldorf punk band ZK by their drummer Fabsi (Claus Fabian) and his partner Elli in Bremen . Fabsi was the original singer of the otherwise all-female music group, whose name goes back to an Amsterdam nightclub called De Mimmi . After Fabsi had not found a publisher for the first single Deutscher Meister wird der SVW , he founded the Weser label , where it was finally self-published, as were all later Mimmi's albums. The first full LP was released in 1984 under the title Was'n hier los . The line-up changed frequently. The professional obligations of the group members required that many concerts take place on weekends and that short tours regularly take place around Christmas time. In their early years, the Mimmi's played numerous concerts primarily in youth centers, punk clubs and autonomous centers, but sometimes also on a larger scale such as in the Berlin Tempodrom in front of several thousand people. a. with Die Toten Hosen , Panzerknacker AG , Ms. Suurbier , German Drinking Youth , Die Ärzte , EA80 or Family 5 . In 1985 the group made it onto television several times: In April, for example, they produced a music video at the invitation of the ARD music video show Formula One . Three months later, on July 8, 1985, their concert was broadcast live in the Munich Alabamahalle . Spurred on by the growing successes, Die Mimmi's went on a major tour in 1985, which also took them to Switzerland, during which the members fell out. In the end, the decision was made to disband the group. The last concert for the time being took place on December 31, 1985 in the Bremen Klub Schlachthof .

1986–1987: Bad Ladies and the Wild Lovers

On October 18, 1986, Die Mimmi's and ZK came together again for a concert on the occasion of the "We do not allow singing" solidarity festival in Berlin's Tempodrom. The proceeds of the concert, at which dozens of artists performed, including Die Toten Hosen and Die Ärzte, served to cover the costs of the proceedings for Heino parodist Norbert Hähnel . Meanwhile, with Lars on drums, Mimmi's leftovers Fabsi, Elli and Sylke founded Bad Ladies and the Wild Lovers in October 1986 , with whom they produced the single Sex that year . In the winter of 1986 they went on the We-Are-the-Champions tour together with Die Goldenen Zitronen , Rocko Schamoni , Rumble on the Beach and Panhandle Alks . They recorded the song Samantha for the tour sampler of the same name .

1987–1992: re-establishment and clearer political positioning

At the beginning of 1987 the Mimmi's were reunited. The June 1987 pogo potato chips tour became a huge success. At the turn of the year 1987/1988 the winter tour started . In 1988, the group released their second full album Alles zuscheißen , on which the band does not turn away from fun punk, but increasingly takes an anti-fascist position. The band cites the ongoing legal development in the Federal Republic of Germany as the background to this , which was expressed, for example, in the entry of the extreme right into the Bremen state parliament or in the attack by nationalistic youths on one of their concerts. In 1988 the Mimmi's appeared again in the Berlin Tempodrom, as part of a festival that was organized under the title "The Long Farewell" on the occasion of the closure of Norbert Hähnel's record shop Scheißladen . In addition to many other groups, Die Toten Hosen also took part in the program of the shit shop farewell party. The joint split single with the Parisian punk band Ludwig von 88 from 1989 helped the Mimmi's to release their mini-LP Punkparty, which was only released in France . In 1991 the group released the album That's My World . The publication of Mimmi's best-of CD 528,000 km the following year concluded this phase in the group's history.

Development since the mid-1990s

The Mimmi's belonged to the core of the German punk rock scene along with numerous other bands. In the press they were often counted as fun punk because of titles such as canned beer , a term that they themselves found too superficial. In 1996 the Mimmi's broke up after internal quarrels and private strokes of fate. Fabsi and the great guitarist Elli founded Fabsi & the Peanutsclub with Tex Morton and Andy Laaf . The band recorded the CD It's Everything Peanuts and started playing live again. However, the program was practically identical to that of the Mimmi's. A shoulder injury to Fabsi's 1999 meant the end of the band. On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Weser label in 2002, Fabsi and the drummer Lars decided to revive the band. Initially under the name Fabsi and the Peanutsclub, two new members did a tour with the Dimple Minds before the name was changed back to Die Mimmi's. In 2004 the first three LPs were re-released on CD and before the end of the Bundesliga season the first single Deutscher Meister wird der SVW was released as a new recording, in 2005 a new record ( hold your tongue ) and in March 2006 the Maxi Du bist Deutschland . In 2006 the band consisted of Fabsi (vocals), Nici (bass, vocals), Lars (drums, vocals) - from 1986 to 1990 with Mimmi's, then Velvetone - and Elf (guitar, vocals) - Slime , CIA , RubberSlime , Abwärts . In April 2007 Lars had to drop out due to illness and was replaced by Andi. At the end of 2007, the album I want everything (and much more) followed .

Every year they headline the Rock'n'Roll Butterfahrt on Helgoland.
