The Minikins - In the Land of the Giants (original title: The Minikins ) is a twelve-part German - Canadian television series from 1981. Directed by Michael Berry , the series was produced by Wagner-Hallig Film GmbH .

prehistory

A long time ago a British ship ran aground on the small island of Bilbo, somewhere in the South Pacific . The people came to a secluded, uninhabited island with untouched nature. In a time without a telephone or computer, they had no choice but to settle down on the island. This brought them into contact with the sap of a plant, the fruit of which had catastrophic consequences for humans. After just a few sips of the juice, a normal adult turns into a dwarf; The juice shrinks to a tenth of the original height. This is how the people of the "Minikins" - miniature people, who finally came to terms with their fate and made their home on the island - arose on Bilbo. Far away from any civilization, the descendants of the once stranded Europeans led a peaceful, pristine life.

content

Paul Herman is working with his partners Smith and Dick Foster on a new project: They want to build a hotel on the as yet unexplored lonely island of Bilbo and make the island a paradise for stressed tourists. First, however, Herman, an architect by profession, should take a close look around the site. So he sets off on a journey with his wife Anna and daughter Trudy. When they arrive on Bilbo, they finally make the sensational discovery of the minikins who live hidden in the jungle in a small village. The Minikins initially give them a friendly welcome until Paul Herman explains the reason for their appearance on Bilbo. Magnus, the leader of the Minikins, sees his tribe in danger and orders Paul Herman to be lured into a trap. This is how it happens: Paul is caught and turned into a mini kin by the berry juice. He will only be released from this state if he travels back to his homeland and rejects the plan to build a hotel on Bilbo. But this project is difficult. On their trip back to Canada, the Hermans are accompanied by the minikins Albi, Dido and Pinkus. During the flight, Anna Herman also turns into a minikin, as she accidentally ingests that dangerous berry juice from a tiny bottle. Magnus had given it to his people in case they got into trouble. After arriving in the strange world, an adventurous and above all dangerous time begins for the five minikins. Especially when Foster and Smith get wind of the incident, it becomes ominous. Foster senses big business in two respects: on the one hand, he is trying to make money with the existence of the mini-people, on the other hand, he now wants to turn Bilbo into a tourist paradise. Unscrupulous as he is, he does not shy away from violence and takes the minikins prisoner. Eventually, however, Foster falls victim to his own greed; He forces the minikins to travel with him to Bilbo and lead him to the village, but this time Foster's plan does not work; the minikins set a trap for him.

anthem

"The hymn" by Bilbo as text:

We are the minikins,
the smallest people in the world,
we lead a happy life,
only do what we like

We are the minikins,
yes we are tiny,
but in true friendship,
we are always firmly united

minikins - hooray
