The always laughs is a song by the German singer and songwriter Kerstin Ott . They recorded the title in 2005, but it only became known through the remix by the producer duo Stereoact , which rose to number two in the German and Austrian charts in 2016. In Germany, the single was awarded a diamond record .

History of origin

Kerstin Ott recorded the song as a hobby musician around 2005. According to her own account, she had written the song within five minutes at the kitchen table for a friend who was sick at the time. Ott accompanied her singing with just four simple chords on an acoustic guitar.

Ott, also known as DJ works, gave away some home-burned CDs of the song that has been set by one of the receivers on YouTube, where in 2015 discovered by DJ duo Stereoact and as deep house - Remix on Kontor Records was released. In the issue of January 1, 2016, the title was listed for the first time in the German charts at number 99.

The remix was provided with a video that was shot in Mallorca. In it, Kerstin Ott plays a photographer who photographs a constantly smiling model (Greta Hirsch).

Who always laughs is about a woman who outwardly only shows herself laughing, although she actually has worries. The narrator takes her by the hand and teaches her to show her true feelings towards others.

In Germany, Die immer laughs first appeared in the charts on January 1, 2016, at number 99. On February 26, 2016, the title reached number two, where it lasted for seven weeks.

Always laughs reached position two in the charts in Germany and was in the top 10 for a total of 17 weeks and so far 54 weeks in the charts. In Austria, the single also reached position two and was in the top 10 for a total of eleven weeks and has currently been in the charts for 44 weeks. In Switzerland, the single reached position 17 in the charts in 34 weeks. Although the song did not make it to number one, it was still the most successful German-language song in the German single charts and in the Austrian hit parade for a period of 14 weeks . In 2016, the single placed second in the German annual single charts, as well as fourth in Austria and 53rd in Switzerland. In Germany and Austria, Die immer laughs was the most successful German-language single in 2016.

For Stereoact and Kerstin Ott, Die immer laughs is the first chart success of their career. To date, no single has been able to rank higher or longer in all German-speaking countries.

Awards for music sales

In October 2017, Die immer lacht was awarded a diamond record for over one million units sold in Germany. This makes it one of the best-selling singles in Germany . It is the first award in their careers for both performers. Overall, the single sold over 1.5 million times in German-speaking countries.

Use and cultural significance

The always laughs was covered by pop singer Tanja Lasch in March 2016 . In January 2017, their cover version was marked with a smago! Award in the category "Cover Version of the Year".

In April 2016, the title became the stadium anthem for Hertha-BSC fans with a modified text .

In the talent show Das Supertalent , Die immer laughs was interpreted by a candidate in November. The single then rose another 28 places in the German charts.

In June 2019, the British pop duo Right Said Fred released an English-language cover version entitled She Always Laughs .
