Diego González Holguín
Fray Diego González Holguín (* around 1560 in Estremadura , Spain , † around 1629 in Lima ) was a Spanish Jesuit and linguist in the Viceroyalty of Peru who was concerned with the Quechua language .
González came to Peru as a missionary in 1581 and studied Quechua in Cusco for 25 years . In 1607 he published the Gramática y arte de la lengua general del Perú in Lima and a year later the Vocabulario de la lengua general de todo el Peru , the first dictionary on Quechua from Cusco. After the works (grammar and dictionary) published by Fray Domingo de Santo Tomás on Quechua, which was then widespread in the Lima area , it was the second major work on the Quechua language.
