Dietrich Dorfstecher (born February 11, 1933 in Kreckow ; † May 30, 2011 in Berlin ) was a German stamp artist , medalist and graphic artist .

After graduating from the Goethe High School in Schwerin , Dorfstecher first studied commercial graphics in Berlin-Weißensee and graduated in 1957. In 1958 he was able to take part in the first design competition for postage stamps of the GDR Deutsche Post, which he won with the design of the special stamp for the 1959 Leipzig Spring Fair. In the period that followed, Dorfstecher designed numerous other brands for the Leipzig trade fair, but also on other topics, including the series “ Significant Buildings ” (1967–1969, 22 values) and “Musical Instruments of the Nations” (six values ​​from 1971). Dorfstecher also designed several German coins. He also created the Marzahn coat of arms, for example . In 1980 he received the GDR Art Prize .

After German reunification, the graphic artist continued to win design competitions for coins and stamps. According to his designs, the “Burghausen Castle” stamp (55 ct) was issued on July 13, 2006, and a 100 euro gold coin was issued in October 2006 and 2010.

Dietrich Dorfstecher was a member of the Berlin Medalists and the German Society for Medal Art. He also worked for this company on catalog and exhibition design.
