The Dicastery for Laity, Family and Life ( Latin : Dicasterium pro Laicis, Familia et Vita ) is a dicastery of the Roman Curia .

overview

The authority was founded by Pope Francis with the Motu Proprio Sedula Mater of August 15, 2016. The dicastery took over as the central authority of the Curia with effect from 1 September 2016 all the tasks of the Pontifical Councils for the Laity and for the family , which went up in the new authority.

On August 15, 2016 (published together with the Motu Proprio on August 17), Pope Francis appointed the previous Bishop of Dallas , Kevin Farrell, as the first prefect of the new dicastery .

On November 7, 2017, Pope Francis appointed two women as Undersecretaries of the Dicastery, Gabriella Gambino for the "Life" area and Linda Ghisoni for the "Lay" area.

The statute of the dicastery was published on May 8, 2018.
