Dionýz Ilkovič

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dionýz Ilkovič (born January 18, 1907 in Šarišský Štiavnik , † August 3, 1980 in Bratislava ) was a Slovak physical chemist . His best-known contribution to science was the derivation of the Ilkovic equation named after him , which allows concentrations to be calculated from the currents flowing in polarography .

Life

From 1925 to 1930 Ilkovič studied chemistry and physics at the Charles University in Prague . From 1930 he worked in the laboratory of Jaroslav Heyrovský , the inventor of polarography . In 1934 he published - based on theoretical considerations - the equation named after him; In 1938 he published the derivation. In 1934 Ilkovič was appointed professor at the Charles University in Prague , and in 1940 he moved to Bratislava . Ilkovič was a professor at the Comenius University in Bratislava until 1976 . He did a great job training physicists, for example he was also responsible for the first modern Slovak physics textbook.
