Dirk Matschenz (born May 30, 1979 ) is a former German skeleton skier who started for the Netherlands and Norway at times and is now a trainer.

Dirk Matschenz from the BSR Rennsteig Oberhof started the sport in 1997 and competed for the bobsleigh and sledge association for Germany until 2001 . The first national and international successes came in 1999. At the German Championships in 1999 he took third place, a year later he was second and in 2001 he won the German championship title. He made his debut in the 1999 World Cup in Igls , finishing twelfth . At the world championships of the year in Altenberg , he was tenth. At the race in Winterberg in February 2000 he came sixth for the first time in the top ten in the World Cup. At the start-up world championships in 2002 he won the silver medal.

After a dispute with the German association, Matschenz switched to the Dutch association in 2002. In his very first race in Calgary , he achieved a new personal best by finishing fifth in a World Cup. A year later he won a European Cup race in Igls . Another good result was fourth place at the 2004 European Championships in Altenberg. Two years later he repeated this placement in St. Moritz . He qualified for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , but could not start because he had not yet received his Dutch passport at that time, but supported the Dutch federation as a coach. In 2007 he won the title of Dutch Master in front of Peter van Wees . Matschens trains himself. After missing qualification for the Dutch squad in November 2007, he contested his last international race for Norway in December of the same year. However, these races did not belong to any higher-class racing series.

After his active career, Matschenz became a trainer and worked as a federal base trainer in Berchtesgaden. In April 2018 he became the head coach of the German national skeleton team.
