The district of Quthing [ ! Uˈtʰiŋ ] is one of ten districts (districts) of the Kingdom of Lesotho in southern Africa .
geography
The district is located in the south of Lesotho. It is named after a river and a mission station 50 kilometers south of the district capital. This is also called Quthing , but is actually called Moyeni (from Phuthi ; German: "Place of the Wind"). The size of the district is 2916 km², its population 115,469 (as of 2016). This makes it one of the sparsely populated districts of Lesotho.

The Quthing district is located in southern Lesotho. He has hardly any shares in the densely populated Lowlands . The vast majority belongs to the Highlands ( Maloti Mountains ). The Senqu flows through the district .
It is bordered to the north by the Mohale's Hoek district , to the east by the Qacha's Nek district and to the west and south by the South African province of Eastern Cape .

In addition to the Basotho , who live all over Lesotho and parts of South Africa, there are Thembu and Phuthi in the Quthing district who speak isiXhosa and Sephuthi , respectively .

- Quthing, also Moyeni, with the districts Upper Moyeni and Lower Moyeni
- Mount Moorosi , located near the Senqu, named after the chief Moorosi, who led the Baphuthi until 1879 and was killed here
- Masitise, place around a mission station founded by the Swiss Protestant David Frédéric Ellenberger in 1867. He lived there with his family in a house in the rock overhang, which can be visited.
