Doğan Seyfi Atlı (born September 10, 1980 in Tekirdağ , † December 17, 2001 in Nazilli ) was a Turkish football player who played for Edirnespor and Denizlispor .

Career

Atli parents are originally from the village Yenikarpuzlu the district İpsala the province of Edirne . Doğan Seyfi Atlı was born in Tekirdağ and started playing football at the amateur club Anafartalarspor . At the age of 18 he got his first professional contract with the then second division club Edirnespor . In the first season, the club could not hold the class and had to relegate to the third division. In his second season Atlı scored 21 goals and was the top scorer of the third division season 1999/2000 .

Due to his good performances, Turkish top clubs took notice of him, so that he had some offers after the season. He decided against the offers from Fenerbahçe Istanbul and Beşiktaş Istanbul and moved to first division rivals Denizlispor . Atlı had a good season at Denizlispor and came to 21 league appearances and five goals until his death (see below). In the last sixteen of the Türkiye Kupası 2001/02 he scored the goal to 1-0 in the away game against the favorites Fenerbahçe Istanbul and was thus significantly involved in the 2-1 victory. He was a very fair player (no personal penalties in 21 games) and was seen as a great footballing talent. In the same season, people in charge of Beşiktaş Istanbul tried to bring him to Istanbul, above all coach Serdar Bilgili .

death

On a free day Atlı spent his one-day vacation with his partner in Kuşadası . Since Atlı had noticed on the way back that he could no longer be on time for team training, which was supposed to start at 1.30 p.m., he drove at excessive speed on the main road in the direction of Denizli. Near the village of Dallıca in the district town of Nazilli ( Aydın province ), he lost control of his vehicle at around 1:15 p.m. and crashed into the guardrails of a bridge. Atlı died at the scene of the accident at the age of 21.

Others

  • As a result of the accident, the Denizlispor club decided to play the remaining games of the season with a black jersey. It was also determined that the jersey number 18 would never be given to another player (Atlı's shirt number).
  • He lost his father in a traffic accident at the age of five.
