Doi Bansui
Doi Bansui ( Japanese 土井 晩 翠 , actually Tsuchii Rinkichi ( 土井 林吉 ), also Tsuchii Bansui ; * December 5, 1871 in Sendai ; † October 19, 1952 ibid) was a Japanese poet and translator.
Live and act
Doi Bansui studied English literature at the Imperial University of Tokyo with Lafcadio Hearn and was one of the editors of the college magazine Teikoku Bungaku , in which he also published his own poems. After completing his studies, he worked as a professor of English language and literature at Tōhoku University in his hometown.
He emerged as a translator of works from the English, Latin and Greek languages. His most important works were the translations of Homer's Odyssey and Iliad . He also published several collections of poems, including Tenchi ujō , Banshō and Bansui shishū . His poem Kōjō no Tsuki in the setting by Taki Rentarō became popular .
In 1950 Doi was awarded the Order of Culture .
