Dolby TrueHD is a lossless audio codec . It was developed by Dolby Laboratories specifically for use on HD DVDs and Blu-ray Discs as an optional lossless surround sound format. It is in direct competition with DTS-HD Master Audio , which is much more widely used.

It is based on Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP) and sees itself as its successor. TrueHD has been expanded to support higher sampling rates, more channels and higher data rates.

FFmpeg contains a free encoder and decoder for MLP and TrueHD.
