Domenico Egidio Rossi (born September 1, 1659 in Fano , † February 19, 1715 in Fano) was an Italian architect and builder.

Life

Rossi was born on the Italian Adriatic coast . His father was Joseph from Arzo . He trained as an architect and quadrature painter in Bologna . Rossi then worked in Prague and Vienna for several large aristocratic families: From 1692 to 1695, the Bohemian Count Hermann Jakob Czernin von Chudenitz († 1710) entrusted him with the management of his building trade in Prague. After Rossi had threatened a plasterer from among his competitors with a sword, he was wanted with an arrest warrant and then fled to Vienna. There he worked for the House of Liechtenstein in Bohemia ,Moravia and Vienna.

Margrave Ludwig Wilhelm von Baden and his wife Franziska Sibylla Augusta von Sachsen-Lauenburg recruited him from Count Czernin in 1697/98 and brought Rossi to Rastatt as their building manager . Rossi was significantly involved in the planning of the city of Rastatt, one of his most important works is the Rastatt Castle . Rossi also worked at the court of the margraves in Durlach . In 1703/04 he made a trip to Bologna and Fano.

Rossi lived in Rastatt with his wife Anna Magdalena and their four children until the margrave's death in January 1707. The court architect became too expensive for the margrave's widow , so she dismissed him from her service a few weeks after the margrave's death in 1707 and his pupil Lorenzo di Sale appointed the new court architect. Rossi then returned to Italy in 1708, where he worked for the Duke of Parma , Francesco Maria Farnese . In 1708 Rossi was called to account by the margravine for damage to the roof structure and the ceilings of the Rastatt castle and in 1708 he was arrested in Mantua , but was soon released again.

Above all, load-bearing architectural parts were made from the hardest Kaiserstein , which is how the collaboration with Kaisersteinbruch masters is documented. The masters Francesco della Torre , he learned the stonemason trade from Hieronymus Bregno in Kaisersteinbruch and Vienna, and Giovanni Battista Passerini formed a working group. Together they received the Prague Citizenship Certificate on October 30, 1663 . Witnesses were Domenico Egidio Rossi, architect at the Czernin Palace and Orsi de Orsini , architect at the Clementinum, etc. Rossi was the godfather of Torres' children.
