Don Fury

Don Fury is an American music producer . He owns a recording studio in New York City and made a name for himself primarily through his work in the genres of punk and New York hardcore .

Career

Fury opened his first studio, a small rehearsal space on 17th Street in Manhattan , around 1977, at the start of the UK's first wave of punk. He produced some of the early New York punk bands such as Richard Hell and The Voidoids , James Chance, Bush Tetras and the Stimulators. Shortly thereafter, he moved his studio to 18 Spring Street. In addition to working with the art punk scene, he established himself as one of the first producers of what is now known as New York Hardcore, hardcore punk from New York. His first work in this sector was the group Agnostic Front's United Blood single . The studio quickly became the focal point for the entire New York scene around Agnostic Front, Warzone and the Cro-Mags . Through his connections to Hilly Kristal , he managed to install the hardcore matinees in the CBGB as a permanent fixture.

Don Fury then worked with the second wave of New York Hardcore, including Madball , Sick of It All , Citizen's Arrest and Nausea . In 1987 he also produced the first New York straight-edge bands for the Revelation Records label by Ray Cappo ( Youth of Today ). After his move to Los Angeles , Fury worked with Victory Records and Equal Vision Records , among others . He also reopened his studio for punk bands like GG Allin , Bouncing Souls and Blanks 77 .

With the success of CIV and Quicksand , he also produced his first major bands. In the 1990s, he founded his own record company, Building Records , which was distributed through TVT Records . On January 4, 2001, he opened a second studio on Coney Island . There he produced the German band Rantanplan , The World / Inferno Friendship Society and The Spunks, among others . In 2008 the Don Fury Studio moved to Troy .
