Donna Jo Napoli

Donna Jo Napoli (born February 28, 1948 in Miami ) is an American professor of linguistics and author of children's and youth literature .

Life

Napoli studied linguistics, general linguistics , Italian literature and mathematics . She graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in mathematics in 1970 , an MA in Italian literature in 1971 and a Ph.D. in 1973. in linguistics. After various teaching positions, she worked at the University of Michigan from 1980 to 1987 , where she was appointed full professor in 1984 . Since 1987 she has been a professor of linguistics at Swarthmore College in Philadelphia , where she also offers creative writing courses.

In addition to numerous publications in her specialist field, she writes books for children and young people, short stories , poetry and essays . She received a number of awards for her successful books for children and young people. Many of her books have been translated into several languages, and some have also appeared in German .

Napoli, whose ancestors come from Venice , has five children and lives with her family in Swarthmore , USA.
