The Dr. von Morgenstern schools are a state-recognized vocational school with locations in Braunschweig and Lüneburg . The private school is named after its founder: the chemist Ferdinand von Morgenstern .

founding

In 1913 Ferdinand von Morgenstern founded a training center for chemical laboratory technicians in Braunschweig. School operations began with five students at Friedrich-Wilhelm-Straße 35. The training took place in close cooperation with sugar-processing companies. The Duchy of Braunschweig , which was a center for the sugar industry at the beginning of the 20th century , needed skilled workers to maintain its status in this branch of the economy.

Ferdinand von Morgenstern

Ferdinand von Morgenstern, born in Potsdam in 1873 , was a German chemist. He studied chemistry at the University of Rostock and published his dissertation in 1906 . Three years later he took over the commercial laboratory Dr. Friedrich in Braunschweig, who had specialized in the analysis of raw sugar from the 30 sugar factories in the Braunschweig region . From this laboratory, von Morgenstern founded the Dr. from Morgenstern schools. Together with the chemist Eduard Freise , founder of the German Drug Academy , he wrote the lexicon Der Drogist: textbook and reference book for druggists and pharmacists .

expansion

In 1968 the school established a second subject alongside chemistry : pharmacy . Now she has trained not only chemical technicians but also pharmaceutical technical assistants . A year later, the Dr. von Morgenstern Schools has a second school location with Lüneburg. In the 1980s, the school built its third ( cosmetics ) and fourth ( biology ) subject. In the 1988/89 school year she taught a total of 550 students in Braunschweig and Lüneburg. The third school location Magdeburg was opened in 1990. The site stopped training in 2012. In 2013 the Dr. von Morgenstern schools are celebrating their centenary.

Family tradition

After the death of the founder and director of the school, Ferdinand von Morgenstern, in 1958, his daughters Ingeborg Ernst-von-Morgenstern and Jutta Beyer-von-Morgenstern took over the school. Peter Pook, son of Jutta Beyer-von-Morgenstern, directed the school from 1971. Hannes Pook, son of Peter Pook and great-grandson of school founder Ferdinand von Morgenstern, continues the family tradition and heads the Dr. von Morgenstern schools are currently in the fourth generation . Hannes Pook is chairman of the Association of German Private Schools Lower Saxony-Bremen.

School today

Today the Dr. von Morgenstern schools offer two-year vocational training courses in four disciplines: biological-technical assistant , chemical-technical assistant , pharmaceutical-technical assistant and state-certified beautician. The school has trained more than 11,000 specialists in these four areas since it was founded.

engagement

On May 18 and 19, 2005, the national preliminary decisions for participation in the international event “Grand Prix Chimique” in Prague took place at this school. This competition is held every two years and offers schoolchildren and trainees the opportunity to compete against one another and to apply their skills in chemistry in practice. A student of Dr. von Morgenstern schools won the national preliminary round. In addition to the results, the jury also evaluates the working methods in the laboratory.

Since 2013, there has been a cooperation between the schools and the Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences , which enables trainees who are completing their degree as biological or chemical-technical assistants (BTA / CTA) and who then take the "Bio- and Environmental Technology" course at the Ostfalia University would like to attend, access to the university and study easier.

The Dr. von Morgenstern schools bear the title School without Racism - School with Courage . The project sponsor is Isabel Edvardsson , multiple German master in standard dances .

The schools support the heart against pain campaign.
