The Dresden Titans are a basketball club from Dresden that plays in the 2nd Bundesliga ProB .

history

The club was formed in 2005 from a cooperation between the three largest Dresden basketball clubs, the USV TU Dresden , the BV Zschachwitz 95 and the HSG Lokomotive HTW Dresden . The goal was to create a game strong competitive sport professional build -Mannschaft.

In the 2009/2010 season the Dresden Titans rose to the 1st Regionalliga Südost , finished the 2010/2011 season in 6th place and rose in the following season as regional league champions in the ProB of the 2nd basketball division. In March 2014 the Dresden Titans Basketball GmbH was founded, which took over the operation of the Dresden professional team.

In the 2015/16 ProB season, the team reached the playoff semi-finals under coach Steven Clauss . Since the Fraport Skyliners Frankfurt Juniors, as a finalist, decided not to go to the 2nd ProA basketball division , Dresden was granted the right to promotion.

On November 29, 2016, promotion coach Clauss was dismissed. Under his leadership, the Titans had only won one win from 13 ProA games and were bottom of the league at the time of the split. The Australian Liam Flynn was signed as his successor. Dresden's relegation from the ProA was already clear on the 26th matchday (of 30).

After relegation to the ProB, the contract of head coach Flynn was not extended. The Croatian Nenad Josipović was signed as a new man for this post. In the 2017/18 season, the Dresden team moved into the championship round, but were eliminated in the opening round against Schalke (0-2 wins). Josipović had to go at the end of November 2018 following a 56:75 defeat in Wolfenbüttel. René Naumann looked after the team in two games as a transition coach, then Markus Röwenstrunk took over the office. Röwenstrunk led the team to relegation, his contract, which expired at the end of the 2018/19 season, was not extended. Christian Steinberg became his successor. On June 30, 2019, Managing Director Jörn Müller left the company. The new man at this post was Rico Gottwald, who had previously headed the Dresdner's youth department and the office since May 2017.

At the end of 2019, coach Christian Steinberg left the club for personal reasons after he had been sick in the previous weeks. Youth coach Fabian Strauss , who stood by Steinberg as an assistant coach and represented him during his illness-related absence, was promoted to head coach.
