Drosera pedicellaris is a species of sundew plant . It was only discovered in 1997 anddescribedby Allen Lowrie in 2002.

description

Drosera pedicellaris , habit with brood scales

The rosette-shaped growing species has a height of up to 1.5 centimeters and a diameter of up to 1.8 centimeters. Like all dwarf sundew, it reproduces vegetatively via brood sheds .

The up to twenty leaves are semi-upright in the middle and almost horizontal on the outside. The slightly hairy leaf stalks are four to five millimeters long, 0.8 millimeters wide at the base and taper to just 0.01 millimeters just before the circular leaf blade , which is covered with the sundew-typical tentacles , which has a diameter of just over a millimeter having.

In October / November the plant forms one to three coils of thread-like inflorescences, which are up to five centimeters high above the plant and have up to 20 five-fold flowers. The petals are white, tinged with green at the base and are up to 3.5 millimeters in length, the pollen is orange. The length of the flower stalks, which is unusual for a dwarf sundew, and the trimming of the wrap with thin stipules are unmistakable characteristics of the species. The ellipsoidal seeds are only half a millimeter long.

Distribution of D. pedicelaris in Australia

Distribution, habitat and status

Only two locations southwest of Geraldton near Three Springs in Western Australia are known of the species. There it grows on sandy soils and in company with low shrubs on heathland .

Since little is known about possible further occurrences and at the same time little is known about the species, the plant received the protection status " Priority One " for rare, threatened species.

Systematics

Drosera pedicellaris is one of the so-called "dwarf sundew", a large group of extremely small sundew species, which form the Bryastrum section within the sundew genus. It is closely related to Drosera parvula .

The epithet pedicellaris refers to the unmistakably long flower stalk (= pedicel) of the species.
