description

Tuber of Drosera zonaria

Drosera zonaria grows as a perennial herbaceous plant that has a low stature and a diameter of about 5 cm. This carnivorous plant forms tubers as persistence organs. In large numbers, the leaves stand together in a small basal rosette, sometimes directly above one another. The relatively long petioles are usually completely covered by the overlapping leaves. The leaf blade is kidney-shaped with a diameter of about 2 cm.

Drosera zonaria rarely blooms. The inflorescence stems grow from the middle of the leaf rosette and carry two to three flowers. The relatively small flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold. The five petals are white.

Occurrence

Drosera zonaria is native to southwestern Australia .

In the summer months, the location of Drosera zonaria usually dries up completely, the plant survives these dry periods as a tuber underground and sprouts again in the wetter autumn and winter months. It prefers to grow on permeable sandy soils .
