Eduardo Moreira "Duduka" da Fonseca (born March 31, 1951 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian drummer .

Life

Duduka da Fonseca began playing drums at the age of twelve and was already performing with well-known Brazilian musicians three years later. After training at the Instituto Villa-Lobos in Rio, at Pro Arte and the Guerra Peixe music school , he performed with his own trio in the Bossa Nova style, with which he also played on Brazilian television between 1966 and 1968. In 1975 he moved to New York City , where he became a member of various formations dedicated to so-called Brazilian jazz , such as Brazilian Express , The New York Samba Band and The Brazilian Jazz All Stars, which included Bob Mintzer , Eliane Elias and Randy Brecker , among others . From 1984 to 1999 he was a teacher at the Drummer's Collective in New York. In 1989 he founded the Trio da Paz with Romero Lubambo and Nilson Matta , which still exists today.

As a drummer he took part in the production of over 200 albums with renowned musicians such as Antônio Carlos Jobim , Astrud Gilberto , Herbie Mann , Lee Konitz , Joe Henderson , Gerry Mulligan , Emily Remler , Claudio Roditi , Herbie Mann, Joanne Brackeen , Kenny Barron or John Anger part. His wife, Maucha Adnet , became known as a singer with Antônio Carlos Jobim before her solo career.

His book Brazilian Rhythms for Drumset has become a standard work for drummers interested in Brazilian music.

Duduka Da Fonseca, Nilson Matte and Hèlio Alves together form the Brazilian Trio , which has been on stage with the German vibraphonist Wolfgang Lackerschmid since 2014.
