Duffy
Aimee Ann Duffy (* 23. June 1984 in Bangor , Gwynedd ), known by her surname Duffy , is a British Soul - Pop - singer , songwriter and Grammy -Preisträgerin. She is also an actress and has released two albums so far .
life and career
After finishing school, Duffy tried to make a living as a singer, which turned out to be very troublesome. The fact that she did not give up was attributed to her family moving from Wales to England : “I had to learn English at school; a language in which I still don't really feel comfortable. So I learned the music as a means of expression "After returning to Wales in 2003 she had a first commercial success -. In the talent show Wawffactor in Welsh television she graduated in 2003 from the runner-up. The following year she made her first recordings and was heard as a singer on an album by the English band Mint Royale .
Duffy was then discovered by Jeanette Lee (formerly Public Image Ltd. ), who brought her to the Rough Trade label and promoted her singing. With successful musicians such as Bernard Butler (member of Suede and McAlmont & Butler ) and Jimmy Hogarth (among other things producer of James Blunt and KT Tunstall ) their debut album Rockferry was produced in the following years . In 2007 A&M Records signed her. The album's title track was released as a limited single on December 3rd that same year. There were also two television appearances towards the end of the year, which made them more popular.
In the annual BBC forecast of which musicians would make the breakthrough in the following year ( Sound of 2008 ), it came in second after Adele . In February 2008, the song Mercy was released as the first official publication and reached in the first week solely through the Internet - # 1 downloads in the UK. Mercy was then also a great success internationally and also rose to number 1 in the German-speaking countries. The album Rockferry was the best-selling of the year in her home country with over 1.5 million copies sold.
Her second album Endlessly was released on November 26, 2010; she had developed the songs together with the songwriter and musician Albert Hammond , who has been successful for decades . The CD was recorded in London and New York City . The song Well Well Well was chosen as the first single .
Duffy's music is also used in numerous films such as Bride Wars or The Naked Truth (both 2009). For the British coming-of-age drama An Education , which was also released in 2009 , she contributed the song Smoke Without Fire for a nightclub scene .
In February 2020, Duffy announced that after a multi-day kidnapping during which she was drugged and raped, she had withdrawn from the public for several years to come to terms with the experience.
Musical style
Duffy's songs are in the style of 1960s soul pop . It follows a trend with which Amy Winehouse and Adele, among others, were or are successful.
